Artists: Veronica Bailey & Philippe Braquenier

For her series Hours of Devotion Veronica Bailey (1965) investigated hundreds of books by Coutts & Co: one of the oldest and most prestigious banks in London. Her photos show marble patterns and coloured ends of pages. Bailey likes to create a new approach to a historical narrative. Together the images make up a different narrative for the social, economic and technological changes in the 19th century.

Philippe Braquenier (1985) is fascinated by the ways in which we try to save ever increasing amounts of data. These ways are prone to decay and thus a lot of human knowledge is in danger of being lost. The series Palimpsest shows the layered structure of architectural, technological and natural circumstances of both analogue and digital ways of data-storage.
