Artists: Jan Wattjes & Raquel Maulwurf

Raquel Maulwurf (1975) shows the chaos in our world, in times of wars, forces of nature or environmental disasters. Maulwurf manipulates the images by turning awful events into something pretty or suggestive. Only the essence of the event remains. Her work no longer show us what we see, but what we know, making the present events tangible.

Jan Wattjes’ (1981) work consists of paintings, drawings and video’s, often combined with architectural of sculptured installations. He refers to the process of painting, painters and their artistic environment. Wattjes investigates the history of painting and combines it with his own experience.
