Artists: Machteld van Buren & Jochem Hamstra
Machteld van Buren (1956) makes surprising and layered works with an astonishing depth. Multiple shapes and techniques are presented in a sampled construction. The canvasses reflect the way in which our experiences are structured: fragmented and complex, but definitely connected.
Jochem Hamstra (1962) plays tricks with posed or natural happiness or unhappiness in life. He does so by using his own work, but also found images, observations of daily life and visual awareness. His painting process consists of a reinterpretation and adaptation of an existing structure and colour, in search of the proper emotional temperature.
